The short version
Al Ikhlas does not have a sign-up, does not collect your name, does not run ads, does not use analytics or trackers, and does not sell or share any data. Almost everything the app does — prayer times, Quran, duas, hadith, tracker, tasbih, calendar — runs and stores its data entirely on your phone. The only thing that reaches us is feedback you choose to send. The few things that do talk to the internet are listed below, exactly, with the reason for each.
Who we are
Al Ikhlas is a free app made by a small, independent team. It is published on Google Play under the developer name “Al Ikhlas”. For anything about this policy, write to alikhlas.app@gmail.com.
What the app stores on your device
- Your settings (prayer time fine-tuning, language, theme, fonts, and reciter choice).
- Bookmarks, reading history, and Hifz/memorization progress.
- Your daily prayer tracker marks and history.
- Fasting log and Cycle/period tracker dates, if you use those trackers.
- Zakat calculator inputs, if you use the calculator.
- 99 Names of Allah — the text is bundled inside the app itself (originally sourced from api.aladhan.com), so opening that screen never touches the internet.
- A short problem log — when something inside the app fails, the error message and a few lines of technical detail are written down on your phone. It is not in the app’s menus; if you report a problem, we may ask you to open it (tap the version number in You seven times) and copy it into your report yourself. It stays on your phone, and one tap clears it.
All of this is stored locally on your phone using Android’s standard app storage. It is never uploaded anywhere, never backed up to a server we run, and is deleted if you uninstall the app or clear its data. This includes the Cycle/period tracker — that data never leaves your device unless you save a backup file yourself (Settings → Backup & restore), which carries it so you can restore it.
What does use the internet, and why
- Quran & dua audio — tapping play streams the recitation from the reciter’s CDN (islamic.network, everyayah.com, mp3quran.net, podcasts.qurancentral.com) or, for Hisn al-Muslim duas, from hisnmuslim.com. Nothing is sent besides the request for that audio file.
- Word-by-word Quran — opening the word-by-word view asks api.quran.com for each word and its meaning, and plays the short per-word recordings from audio.qurancdn.com. Both are run by the Quran Foundation. It happens only while that screen is open, and nothing from it is kept on your phone.
- Tafsir — opening the tafsir of Ibn Kathir or As-Saadi asks cdn.jsdelivr.net for that ayah’s tafsir, and opening Ahsan-ul-Bayan asks quranenc.com. Nothing is sent but the surah and ayah you opened.
- Hadith books you choose to download — Sunan Abu Dawud, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah come from cdn.jsdelivr.net, or from raw.githubusercontent.com when that does not answer. Nothing is sent but the request for the book’s file. Each file is checked against a fingerprint built into the app, then kept on your phone and read offline; you can remove it in the Hadith library at any time.
- Ask Islam Q&A — when you search there, or tap one of its example questions, the app opens islamqa.info’s own search in your browser, with your question in the web address, in the site’s English, Urdu or Arabic edition (the app’s language). islamqa.info is an independent site that we do not run. Nothing else is sent, and the app keeps no copy of the question.
- Send feedback — when you tap send, your message, the category you picked, how many files you attached (not their names), and your phone’s operating system and version are posted to formsubmit.co, a third-party form service that forwards them on to alikhlas.app@gmail.com. This happens only when you send feedback, and if it doesn’t go through the app says so and offers to hand the message to your own email or share app instead.
These are public, third-party services, not servers we operate. Using them means your IP address reaches that service the way it would for any app or website you use, the same as opening a map in a browser. We don’t control their logging. Beyond what you type into a feedback message yourself, we never send them your name, tracker data, bookmarks, or anything else from the list above.
Quran data provided by Quran Foundation.
Feedback you send us
Feedback arrives in our team’s email inbox. The app sends it to formsubmit.co over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. We use it only to answer you and to fix the app. We keep it only as long as we need it for that, and never longer than one year. Email alikhlas.app@gmail.com and we will delete any feedback you sent us. We keep no other data about you.
What the app never does
- No account or sign-up, ever.
- No advertising and no ad SDKs.
- No analytics or tracking libraries, and no crash reports sent off your phone — the problem log above is read by you, not by us.
- No selling or sharing of data with third parties for marketing.
- No access to your contacts, messages, camera, or microphone.
Permissions the app asks for
- Approximate location — to calculate accurate prayer times and Qibla direction for where you are. Used on-device only: your city is named from a list built into the app, so no location leaves your phone for it.
- Notifications & exact alarms (“Alarms & reminders”) — to deliver Azan alerts, the Tahajjud wake-up alarm and the prayer-time countdown at the right minute. When your phone does not allow exact alarms for the app, the Azan can come late, or not at all; the app tells you when they are off and can open that page for you.
- Run at startup (boot) — so Azan alarms are re-scheduled after your phone restarts, instead of silently stopping.
- Battery settings — some phones (Xiaomi/MIUI, Oppo, Vivo) aggressively stop background alarms, so the app can open your phone’s settings for you (this app’s page, or the battery list) to let the Azan run. No special permission is used.
- Internet — for the specific, listed reasons above only.
Children
The app is made for ages 13 and over. It collects nothing except feedback you choose to send, and it does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
This website
This website (al-ikhlas-app.pages.dev) has no cookies, no analytics and no forms, and it loads nothing from other sites. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps the standard server logs (such as IP addresses) needed to run and protect the site.
Changes to this policy
If what the app stores or connects to ever changes, this page will be updated to match before that update reaches you, with a new “last updated” date above.
